Auctions FAQs

I am new to Auctions – where do I start?

Auctions listings can be found among all the great products offered on the Properties – be on the lookout for our gavel icon. If you see something you would like to bid on or add to your Watch List, if available, you must first sign in or create an account.

Who is eligible to participate in Auctions?

Only U.S. residents and those that meet the eligibility requirements can participate in Auctions.  See [here].

Do you have a buyer’s premium?

A buyer’s premium is a percentage fee from the winning bid that some auction houses collect once the auction closes.  We do not charge a buyer’s premium.

What is a reserve?

We may set a “reserve” for certain auctions and, if we do, the applicability of a reserve price to the auction will be posted in the item listing.  A reserve price is the minimum amount that one must bid for the item to be sold in the auction. Only bids placed at or above the reserve price are eligible to win the auction. If the reserve price is not met by the time the auction ends, there will be no winner of the auction.

What is the difference between a Standard Auction and a Dutch Auction?

In a Standard Auction, the winning bid will be the bid that is the highest dollar amount at the time the auction closes, subject to any applicable reserve amount.  To be accepted, each bid in a Standard Auction must exceed the previous highest bid, including meeting any applicable minimum bid increment disclosed for that auction.

In a Dutch Auction, there can be more than one item at a time available for bidding and there can be as many winning bidders as there are items available for bidding. The winning bidders will be those individuals who place the highest dollar amount bid for the auction above the reserve price, if applicable, subject to availability.  For example, if there are 20 items available and there are more than 20 bidders for those items, the bidders who place the highest dollar amount bid will be the winning bidders. At the close of the auction, the price of each item for the winning bidders will be set at the lowest dollar amount of the winning bids. For example, if there are 20 winning bidders, and the lowest dollar amount bid of those 20 winning bids is $10.00, then each of the 20 winning bidders will pay $10.00, plus applicable taxes, shipping charges and handling fees for the item.  In the event of multiple bids for the same quantity that are tied at the lowest qualifying level at the end of the Auction, the winner(s) among such tied bids will be determined based on earliest received.

You can learn more about Standard Auctions and Dutch Auctions [here].

How do I bid?

To place a bid, you must meet the eligibility requirements here, have a registered account, and be signed into the account.  You must also have a valid method of payment and U.S. shipping address on file, which will be considered your default payment method and shipping address. Once you find something you would like to bid on, enter your bid amount and click Bid Now. Please note, bids are FINAL once placed and there is no option to cancel.

How can I create an account?

You can create an account by clicking here.

I previously created an account on the separate Fanatics Auctions website. Can I use my same credentials on this website to place a bid?

No, unless your e-mail and password for your existing account on this website matches your Fanatics Auctions e-mail and password. Otherwise, you must create a new account to place a bid on this website.

How can I update my account information?

You can update your account information at any time. Learn more about how to modify your account here. Please note Auctions customers are expected to maintain their account with valid contact, payment, and shipping address information. Invalid contact, payment and/or shipping address information may cause a delay in the processing of your Auctions order.

Do I need to use a credit/debit card to bid?

Yes. You must have a valid credit/debit card on file to bid on an auction item. Your credit card will not be charged unless you are the winning bidder. Winning bids will be processed through auto-checkout using the default card on file. The amount charged at checkout will be the winning bid amount, plus $4.99 for standard shipping (which means the item will ship in up to 7 business days from checkout, unless otherwise noted on the product page), $1.99 for handling fees, and applicable taxes.

What is a maximum bid amount?

Your maximum bid amount is the highest price you are willing to pay for an item (subject to shipping ($4.99) and handling ($1.99) fees, plus applicable taxes). When you place your maximum bid amount, your bid will be processed in the designated bid increment amount above the current bid. If you are outbid, the system will automatically place bids for you at the bid increment until your maximum bid is reached. By way of an example, if an auction opens at $10 with a $1 bid increment and you place a maximum bid of $100, your bid will initially be processed at $11. If another bidder places a bid at $12, the system will automatically bid $13 for you and will continue up to your maximum bid amount of $100.

Can I increase my maximum bid after I have placed a bid?

Yes. If your maximum bid amount has been outbid, you can either place another maximum bid amount or enter each subsequent bid one at a time. To increase your current bid amount, simply return to the auction listing and enter and submit a new, higher maximum bid amount.

What are bid increments and how are they determined?

All bids are made in automatic increments that we will set for each item (e.g., an increment might be $5, $10, $25 or another amount). We set bid increments on an item-specific basis at our sole discretion. Bid increments may vary per item and will be displayed on our website when you go to place your bid.

Why does it appear that I am having to place multiple bids for my bid to be accepted?

This can happen when a bidder has placed a higher maximum bid. You can place a maximum bid of your own to try to outbid the current winning bid, or you may choose to continue bidding in the increments indicated until your bid is accepted.

How will I know if my bid is no longer winning?

You should receive an e-mail. However, there can be unpredictable delays in e-mail transmission. We suggest that you regularly check your bid status on the website by going to Account Home > Bid History.

Where can I monitor my bidding activity/bid status?

You can monitor your bidding activity by going to Account Home > Bid History.

I appear to have been outbid by an amount smaller than the bid increment. How has this occurred?

In some cases, it's possible that another bidder's maximum bid is greater than yours, but by less than the standard bid increment applicable to the auction.  For example,  you bid $100 in an auction with a standard bid increment of $5.  That means anyone bidding after you must bid at least $105 to beat your bid.  However, if someone previously entered a “proxy” bid (click here to learn about “proxy” bids”) of $101, they will automatically become the high bidder at $101 and will be ahead of you unless/until you place a higher bid.

Can I cancel a confirmed bid?

No. Bids are automatically accepted as entered by the bidder, are FINAL, and cannot be canceled. Thus, please use caution when placing your maximum bid.

What is my Watch List?

You can use the Watch List feature to keep track of items you want to monitor closely. On each auction listing page there is an Add to Watch List button. Click on this to add an item of interest to your list. You do not need to place a bid on an item to add it to your Watch List.

What is real-time bid refresh?

Real-time bid refresh is in place to deliver the best possible online auction experience by presenting the most up-to-date auction information (including Auction Time Remaining, Bid Count, and Current Bid Amount) without the need to manually refresh the current browser page.

What is auto bid extend?

Auto bid extend ensures that bidders will always have a chance to challenge (meaning place a higher bid than the current winning bid) bids placed in the final seconds of an auction. If a new bid is placed in the last 5 minutes of an auction, the auction will automatically extend for an additional 5 minutes from the time of the latest bid. The auction will close once all bidding activity has stopped for a period of 5 minutes. During the extended bidding session, you may only bid on the item(s) you placed a bid on during the initial auction period.

How will I know if I win?

If you are the winning bidder on an auction, you should receive an e-mail notifying you that you have won. We suggest that you regularly check your bid status on the website by going to Account Home > Bid History.

How do I pay for a winning auction?

Once an auction has closed and if you are the winning bidder, your item will go through auto-checkout (meaning your default card will be automatically charged the final price of the item, plus the shipping ($4.99) and handling ($1.99) fees, as well as actual applicable taxes), and payment will be processed through our secure payment centers using the default card you have on file.

What happens if my payment fails?

If your payment fails, you will be notified by e-mail. Failure to complete valid payment within the time specified in any notification we send you about a failed payment may result in us voiding the auction and canceling your bid.

Will I receive an order confirmation for the auction(s) I win?

Yes. Once your payment and order have been successfully processed, an order confirmation e-mail (which will reflect the final price of the item(s), plus the shipping ($4.99) and handling ($1.99) fees, as well as actual applicable taxes) will be sent to you.

Will I be charged sales tax on my order if I am the winning bidder?

Yes. For additional information on sales tax, please visit our Help Page.

What kind of authentication will be provided with each item?

Each item listed is accompanied by an Authentication Hologram and/or a Letter of Authentication (LOA). The proper authentication will be specified in each product description.
